Citizen's Police Academy

The Galax Police Department is now accepting applications for its Annual Citizen's Police Academy.
Citizens will be treated to 12 weeks of classroom and hands-on learning experiences. The academy is organized to give citizens first hand knowledge in what a police officer experiences in their daily tour of duty. Classes that are scheduled to be taught are:
  • The Role of Law Enforcement in Society
  • Organization and Structure of Galax Police Dept.
  • Crime Prevention
  • Firearms Safety
  • Personal Safety
  • Criminal Justice System
  • Special Emergency Response Team (SERT)
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Firearms Training Simulator (FATS)
  • Domestic Violence
  • Gangs

Classes will begin on November 15 and will be held on each Tuesday and Thursday night thereafter. Location and time TBA. You must be able to pass a criminal background check to be eligible for the Citizen's Police Academy.
