It is the mission of the Galax Police Department Crime Prevention Unit to work in partnership with the citizens of Galax to promote crime prevention through teamwork, creative problem solving, education and training.

The Galax Police Department maintains a professional Crime Prevention Unit. The police department has three officers, Sergeant Chris Brown, Detective Aaron Criner and Police Officer Darrin Alley who are certified by the Virginia Department of Criminal Services as Crime Prevention Specialist. It is their goal to provide necessary prevention services and to enhance public awareness in an effort to deter crime.
