Members of the Galax Police Department assigned to enforcement duties
are trained at the New River Valley Criminal Justice Training Center.
"In-house" training opportunities are also provided on site. One member of
the Criminal Investigation Division is a graduate of the Virginia Academy of
Forensic Science. Members of the Special Operations Division are trained by the Virginia
Community Policing Institute.
The Police Department provides instructional
aide to the Police Academy in firearms, patrol techinques, crime scene search,
search and seizure, driver training, and crime prevention.
