Chief of Police, R.C. Clark
was appointed by the Galax City Council on December 17, 2001.
Clark holds a B.S. degree from Gardner Webb University, a Master
of Science Degree from Radford University and is a graduate of the New River Valley Criminal Justice Training Center and Virginia Academy
of Forensic Science.
With twenty-six years experience in the Galax Police Department and Carroll County Sheriffs Office,
he has served as communications officer, patrol officer, investigator, chief investigator,
and uniform patrol supervisor and division commander.
Chief Clark is a certified criminal justice instructor and has been an adjutant instructor in the
Virginia Community College System.
Captain James Cox
was appointed in November 2001.
Captain Cox is a graduate of the New River Valley Criminal Justice Training Center and is a certified
crime prevention specialist and police mountain bike instructor.
Captain Cox served as accreditation manager during the state certification of the police
department and is now responsible for day-to-day operation of the police department.
